I was tired of seeing single, isolated systems that weren't attached to any part of their home nation. Pre jump drives, this is an untenable situation. How can the starbase get supplies if all connecting hyperlanes are controlled by someone who doesn't let you use them? They would effectively be sieging the system, and eventually your people would die. Then, the person who controlled the neighboring systems can just take the system, claiming that you have no claim to it as you have no people there.
So now, isolated systems will last for, at most, 10 years.
- An exclave is defined as a system that shares no hyperlane/l-gate/gateway/wormhole connections with any other part of your territory, or any unclaimed territory. So you can still rush to get chokepoints, because there will be unclaimed territory connecting to it.
- Exclaves will be lost within 1-10 years of being isolated.
- If you have a planet in an exclave, it will not be lost. Reasoning: the planet can feasibly supply the starbase with supplies.
- If you have any gateways or wormholes in the system that lead back to your territory, the system will not be destroyed.
- If you have open borders with someone who is bordering the system, the system will not be lost.
- This will only happen to single isolated systems. Exclaves of two or more systems are safe (for now).
- Why 10 years? First, it feels more organic this way, as opposed to having them all disappear at the same time. Second, I think starbases would have enough provisions to last a few years. Maybe not 10, but I don't think it's unreasonable. Third, I don't think the event really needs to be run more often than that. This should sufficiently clean up the map over time.
