Compatibility Patch: Guilli's Planet Modifiers + Ethics and Civics Classic
Stellaris 4.4 | compatibility patch | requires Guilli's Planet Modifiers and Features and Ethics and Civics Classic
What this patch does
Ethics and Civics Classic replaces the vanilla script that hands out researcher jobs to research zones, and adds a requirement to it: the empire must have
Space-Age Researchers (the technology vanilla calls
Scientific Method). Its own research zone checks the same technology, so it simply is not offered until you have it. Inline scripts are shared by file path, so every mod that uses that script gets E&C's version - including Guilli's.
Guilli's
Archaeological Zone (zone_gpm_precursor_science) uses that script but has no technology requirement of its own. With both mods enabled it can be built for 1000 minerals and 360 days and then produces
zero physicist, biologist and engineer jobs until Space-Age Researchers is researched. Everything else about the zone works, so it looks like a working zone that simply has no jobs.
This matters most on low-tech starts: Ethics and Civics Classic's primitive origins (
Pre-Industrial Age through
Early Space Age) and the base game's
Broken Shackles origin, none of which start with that technology. Empires that start with it are unaffected either way.
When you need it
Only if you run
both mods, and mainly if you play one of E&C's primitive origins.
How the conflict is resolved / what is kept
The zone is redefined with exactly
one added line: it now requires Space-Age Researchers, the same way Ethics and Civics Classic gates its own research zone. Instead of being a buildable trap, the zone stays hidden until the technology is researched.
Everything else is Guilli's original text, unchanged: cost, build time, zone sets, building sets, the 3 extra building slots, the +2500 Minor Artifact capacity, the researcher upkeep modifiers, the Minor Artifact bonuses and the AI weights.
Not done on purpose: this patch does
not ship its own copy of the shared researcher-jobs script. That would remove Ethics and Civics Classic's technology requirement from E&C's own zones as well, which would be a balance change rather than a fix.
Load order
Does not matter - the patch works by file name and wins regardless of position. Placing it below both mods is still good practice.
Required mods
Guilli's Planet Modifiers and Features |
Ethics and Civics Classic (Primitive Nomad Update)
Notes
- One file, one zone, no new content and no text of its own. Adding it to a running game is fine. If you already built the zone before researching the technology, back up your save first - whether the new requirement also applies to a zone you already own has not been measured yet.
- Guilli's second zone, the Autonomous Manufactorium Zone, does not use the affected script and is not touched.
- The same gap exists for research zones from other mods that use the shared script. Those need their own patches.
- Needs to be re-checked whenever Guilli's changes this zone; it will be updated when that happens.
